This recipe is a combination of my two of my favorite food groups: carbs and cheeses! I created this recipe to take to a football viewing party and it has been a hit ever since. I get text messages before events asking me to bring two loaves of my spicy cheesy garlic bread and it honestly makes me so happy. Not because it's my recipe but because it is such an easy recipe to make so it takes me around ten minutes to prepare and because I always look forward to eating it. It is also one of those foods that is an experience to eat with others making it memorable rather than just serving yet another dip. Everyone is able to get that satisfaction of seeing their individual cheese pulls making it the perfect interactive snack or appetizer to share with friends and family. It also is a recipe that is loved by both adults and children, for the children I tend to lower the spicy level because they typically do not like the spicy as much as the adults do. In terms of ingredients, I like to change it up from time to time based on what my grocery store is carrying at the time. For instance, the recipe calls for pepper jack cheese which is usually a very easy ingredient to find in grocery stores but if I am able to find a seasonal hatch chile or habanero cheese I like to use those. It not only turns up the heat but provides it with an extra layer of depth and flavor that an everyday pepper jack would not. Either way, the pepper jack cheese tastes great if you can not find any other cheese. As far as bread goes, my all time favorite bread to use is challah. Challah is a Jewish bread that typically has a braided or criss cross pattern and it is always so soft and airy and honestly tastes amazing on its own. If you are unable to find challah, I would recommend using a fresh baked sourdough. The only thing you have to keep in mind when using sourdough is that it is dryer and may require you to use more butter. Whether you serve this with some spaghetti for dinner or as an appetizer for a gathering I am sure that everyone will love this spicy cheesy pull apart bread! I hope you love this recipe as much as I do and my DMs are always open for any tips you may want/need…happy cooking!

Spicy Cheesy Pull Apart Bread

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Cut the bread with diagonal slits across the entire loaf stopping about 1/2 inch before the bottom of the loaf. Flip the loaf around and repeat the same process and create a cross cross pattern.
  2. In a bowl mix together the butter, garlic, serrano, salt, black pepper and red chili flakes.
  3. Take a spoon and add the melted butter mixture into the cracks of the bread. Be sure to evenly distribute it and reserve about three tablespoons of the mixture for the end.
  4. Next, add the shredded cheese into the cracks as well and make sure to evenly distribute the cheese as well.
  5. Wrap the whole bread in aluminum foil. Be sure not to wrap it too tight or else the cheese will stick to the top of the foil, and which will make it hard to open.
  6. Bake the bread 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Unwrap the bread from the foil and pour the extra butter mixture on top then enjoy!
